Flatiron District

This midtown locality is at the center of shopping, restaurants, schools and recreation. Previously known as the Toy District and Photo District, this area earned the designation from the eponymous triangular Flatiron Building, one ofNew York's oldest building. Along with Met Life Tower, and New York Life Building and One Madison Park, this neighborhood portrays and interesting blendof high-rise with mid-rise residential buildings reflective of the Beaux-Artscast-iron architecture of the early 20th century.

As a cosmopolitan hub, this area abounds in some very interesting and novel stores. Flatiron stands out in its abundance of well-known home and furniture outlets along with stationery stores, bookshops and photography studios. Other attractions include the famous Madison Square Park and the Gershwin Hotel,which is a tribute to the late pop artist Andy Warhol.

Home to the Institute of Culinary Education, Flatiron abounds in award-winning restaurants. Additionally, with many lounges, clubs and cabarets, life in Flatiron thrives well.
